Many users do not even consider how many applications use the location function on a smartphone. Weather, taxis, food delivery services, online stores, Latitude — we get so used to using this software that sometimes we don’t even notice it. Problems begin the moment when the iPhone determines the location incorrectly. The taxi driver leaves a few streets further, and the Weather thinks you are somewhere near Nizhnevartovsk. Today I propose to understand all the ways to improve the accuracy of the location on the iPhone and discuss all the details.
iPhone not detecting location
First, you must ensure that geolocation is enabled on your iPhone. For this:
- Open Settings on your iPhone.
- Next, go to Privacy, Location Services.
- Check if the toggle switch is set next to Location Services.
Be sure to turn on the toggle switch next to Location Services.
After that, you need to allow the application access to geolocation. When you start a new program, iPhone usually asks permission to access geolocation in a separate window. But just in case, you must ensure that the application has all the necessary settings. For this:
- Open Settings on your iPhone.
- Next, go to Privacy, Location Services.
- Find the desired application from the list, and go to it.
- Set the geolocation option you need.
Select the option you want and turn on the Precise location slider.
There are 4 options available in total:
- Never.
- Ask next time or when I post.
- When using the app.
- Is always.
If you use this program often, it is best to check the box next to When using the application. For Taxi, Delivery and other services, I would prefer this option.
Turning off geolocation is not worth it because you can forget about it, and there will be difficulties next time. If the program needs your location, it will ask you about it. Usually, such notifications pop up infrequently.
Keep in mind that by default, the iPhone determines the geolocation only approximately. To improve geolocation accuracy, turn on the toggle switch Accurate location.
How to improve location on iPhone
Geolocation accuracy is a must for many.
If you turned on all the settings above and at the same time the iPhone does not show geolocation correctly, try the following:
- Check if iPhone has Internet access.
- Make sure the time and date are set correctly.
- Turn off and on airplane mode on your smartphone.
- Completely close all applications and reopen them.
Although an Internet connection is not required for Location Services to work correctly on an iPhone, location accuracy may suffer. Solving the problem is easy – open any page in Safari and see if it loads or not.
Apple’s official website says that walls, vehicle roofs, tall buildings, mountains, and other obstacles can interfere with GPS satellite reception. If you can’t access satellites, your iPhone uses cell towers or Wi-Fi networks to determine your location.
Location Services can work offline, but sometimes a connection is needed.
Be sure to check if your iPhone has the latest version of the operating system. The problem may lie right here. You can do this by going to Settings, General, and Software Update. There should be an inscription “iOS up to date”. If the iPhone offers to install an update, feel free to agree. We regularly tell you about iOS updates. So, the other day iOS 15.4 was released with an unlocked iPhone in a mask and Universal Control.
There is another banal recommendation – reboot the device. It is possible that everything will work as it should after turning it on.
How to update an app on iPhone
The error can occur in the application itself. If you notice that the issue is with a particular program, check it for updates. Often in the update’s description, the developers themselves indicate what they fixed in the new update. Also, do not be lazy and give feedback in the Reviews. You may help other users.
You can update the app on your iPhone as follows:
- Open the App Store on your iPhone.
- Tap on the profile icon in the top right corner.
- Scroll to the bottom and click Update next to the app you want.
